U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson has announced that she will be leaving her post after President Barack Obama's State of the Union address in January.

Jackson's departure had been the subject of post-election rumors from leaders in the solar market.

‘I will leave the EPA confident the ship is sailing in the right direction,’ Jackson said in her statement announcing her resignation. Among other priorities, her department was tasked with initiatives focusing on climate change and energy independence.

A replacement for Jackson has not yet been named.Â
