Osaka, Japan-headquartered Sharp Corp., a worldwide producer of solar and electronic products, has increased its annual production capacity for solar cells at its Katsuragi Plant in Nara Prefecture, Japan, by 100 MW.
Because of this increase, the plant's solar cell production capacity will reach 600 MW per year. The increase is in response to a demand of solar cells for industrial and commercial uses due to the implementation of policies mandating power buy-back programs, the company says.
Sharp's goal is to make solar cells even thinner and improve thin-film solar cells, which use minimal amounts of silicon. The company is also looking to establish highly efficient production systems and expand its production lines, the company adds.
