Applied Materials Inc. has hired Gary Fazzino as vice president of government affairs, responsible for Applied's global government relations programs. He joins Applied from the Hewlett-Packard Co., where he served as vice president of government and public affairs, and will be located at Applied's Santa Clara, Calif., headquarters.
At Hewlett-Packard, Fazzino was responsible for shaping public policies and building relationships worldwide with government officials, community leaders, nongovernmental organizations and business partners to advance HP's interests. Prior to this role, Fazzino held a number of positions at HP, including Northwest public affairs manager, state government affairs manager and director of federal public policy in Washington, D.C.
Fazzino served as mayor of Palo Alto, Calif., from 1992-93 and again from 1999-2000, and was elected to the Palo Alto City Council five times.
