In what could be a boost for renewable energy, a federal appeals court has ruled that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has the right to set limits on greenhouse-gas emissions, including carbon dioxide.
In the ruling, the court said the EPA had ‘substantial record evidence’ that greenhouse gases have contributed to climate change.
According to a Bloomberg report, companies and business groups – mainly in the coal industry – sought to stop the EPA from regulating emissions standards. Attorneys for the opponents told Bloomberg they are considering taking the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
