NorthGrid Solar Inc., an Ontario-based engineering, procurement and construction company, says it is nearing completion of the first phase of the 1.7 MW rooftop solar project it is building for The Valecon Group, a commercial property developer and owner.
The first phase of the project is 564 kW and is scheduled for commercial operation by October. The second phase consists of 1.14 MW, with construction scheduled to begin in the fall and commercial operation set for spring 2013.
The project utilizes NorthGrid's elevated truss system (ETS), which provides ongoing roof access, the company explains. The ETS system is best suited for industrial, commercial or institutional buildings with a large number of rooftop units that cause shading, or for rooftops that are unable to support ballasted solar energy systems, NorthGrid adds.
