First Solar Inc. and Belectric Holding GmbH have launched PV Projects GmbH & Co. KG as a joint venture to develop select photovoltaic-based energy projects in Europe, North Africa and the U.S. The latter segment will be restricted to projects under 20 MW.
Under the terms of the joint venture, which is subject to approval from relevant governmental regulators, First Solar will supply its thin-film modules along with related components and services, while Belectric will provide balance of systems equipment and support. Both companies will supply engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services as appropriate by geography. The non-exclusive agreement will also allow both companies to independently and competitively pursue development prospects and corresponding EPC work.
