First Solar has commenced construction of the 102 MW Nyngan solar power project in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. AGL Energy Ltd. is developing the project, which incorporates approximately 1,350,000 of First Solar's thin-film photovoltaic modules.
In addition to engineering, procurement and construction services, First Solar will provide maintenance services for a period of five years post-commissioning. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2015.
The Nyngan solar plant is the first of two utility-scale solar projects to have received funding by the commonwealth government through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the NSW government. First Solar expects to commence construction of the second project in Broken Hill, NSW, this year.
