First Solar Inc. has completed the 1.3 MW solar photovoltaic power plant at Kitakyushu-shi in Japan.

Powered by First Solar FS Series 3 Black PV modules, the plant will generate approximately 1,400 MWh of solar electricity per year, says First Solar. Power from the project will be purchased by Kyushu Electric Power Co.

Joe Kishkill, First Solar's chief commercial officer, says that Japan has ‘ambitious solar power development goals to help mitigate the dependency on nuclear energy’ and that the project helps to support this commitment.

First Solar holds 100% equity, and Obayashi Corp. and Yaskawa Electric Corp. constructed the project. Nippon Sheet Glass supplied the advanced technology glass used in the PV modules.
