First Solar Inc. has completed the sale of the 550 MW Desert Sunlight solar farm near Desert Center, Calif.
First Solar – which will continue to build and subsequently operate and maintain the project under separate agreements – has sold the project to affiliates of NextEra Energy Resources LLC, the competitive energy subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc., and GE Energy Financial Services. Each has acquired 50% of the project.
Construction has already begun on the project, First Solar notes. Full commercial operation is expected by the first quarter of 2015.
The project also received approval of its $1.46 billion loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy.
