Thin-film solar manufacturer First Solar has reportedly approached the bankruptcy trustee for Abound Solar to inquire about taking Abound's discarded solar modules at its old Colorado factories. First Solar would recycle the materials at its facilities.
A First Solar spokesperson confirmed to the Denver Post that the offer had been made, but the details of the deal are still being worked out.
Abound Solar, which filed for bankruptcy last year, was ordered last month by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to clean up its former factory sites. The leftover cadmium telluride modules and related materials were classified as toxic.
