First Wind has broken ground on the first of its three solar projects in Warren, Mass., with a combined total of 17 MW. Along with a 3.9 MW project in Millbury, the efforts represent the veteran wind developer's first foray into solar power.
Construction on the Warren and Millbury projects is being led by Borrego Solar Systems Inc. First Wind secured financing from KeyBanc and a 30-year power purchase agreement with the University of Massachusetts for the majority of the power generated from the facilities.
