FirstEnergy Seeks Solar Renewable Energy Credits

0

FirstEnergy Corp. says that a fourth request for proposals (RFP) will be conducted to secure Ohio in-state solar renewable energy credits (SRECs) for customers of its Ohio utilities – Ohio Edison, Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. and Toledo Edison.

The Ohio SRECs will be used to help meet the companies' 2010 solar renewable energy requirements under Ohio law. (FirstEnergy recently received a failing grade from the Environment Ohio Research & Policy Center for failing to meet its solar energy requirements.

The current RFP seeks to secure Ohio SRECs for compliance-year 2010, which, by definition, must have been generated from solar facilities in Ohio between July 31, 2008, and Jan. 1, 2011. The number of individual bidders is not limited; however, bidders must meet certain proposal qualifications as outlined in the RFP. In addition, no energy or capacity will be purchased under this RFP.

Bidding information is available here. The due date is March 18.
