Fluor Corp. says that Centinela Solar Energy LLC, a member of LS Power Group, has issued a notice to proceed for Phase II of the Centinela solar project, a 170 MW PV plant located 90 miles east of San Diego.

Fluor received its initial notice to proceed from LS Power in September 2012 and began construction in December 2012. Phase II is the final phase to be released to Fluor under its lump-sum engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the project. The company will book the undisclosed second-phase value in the first quarter of this year.

The Centinela project is located on approximately 2,100 acres, and all major permits have been secured for the project. Centinela Solar Energy has closed financing for both phases of the project and has executed a 20-year power purchase agreement for the entire power output from the facility.

Engineering, procurement and construction oversight is under way from Fluor's Southern California operations center. The facility is expected to achieve full commercial operation by the middle of 2014.
