Florida Light & Power (FPL) is building the largest solar array in the state of Florida in Rothenback Park, Sarasota County, as part of the utility's Sunshine Energy program.
The Sunshine Energy program is offered to FPL residential customers who support renewable energy. According to an FPL representative, the project is the biggest purchase the company has made with customers' contributions.
The 250 kW solar array will be mounted on the ground and will be visible from the road. It will be built with 1,200 solar panels and will prevent more than 680,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the air each year, the company says. Construction of the new facility is expected to be complete this spring.
