Georgia Power plans to double its solar energy purchases from independent power producers – resulting in an additional 2.5 MW of capacity purchased from homes and businesses, bringing the total to slightly more than 5 MW.
The announcement was made by Georgia Public Service Commission Chairman Lauren McDonald, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
In addition, Georgia Power plans to build 1 MW of its own capacity, as well as purchase 1.4 MW of solar from a 1.2 MW project planned for the Savannah area and a 200 kW array at a Georgia pecan farm.
