Gestamp Renewables, part of Spain-based Corporacion Gestamp, plans to build a factory in Surprise, Ariz., to support the development of large-scale solar energy projects in the U.S.
The facility, to be newly constructed on 27 acres of land in the Skyway Business Park, will house a steel fabrication factory and the U.S. headquarters for Gestamp Solar Steel. In its first phase, the facility will encompass 75,000 square feet and is expected to employ 50 people, the company says.
Gestamp plans a phased expansion of the facility, with additional manufacturing capacity to accommodate ongoing development of projects for the rapidly growing solar energy market in North America.
Initial customers for Gestamp's steel structures include BrightSource Energy Inc., which is currently developing the 392 MW Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System concentrating solar power project in California's Mojave Desert.Â
