Baltimore-based Constellation Energy has announced that the upcoming Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship will be the first-ever PGA Tour event to be powered fully by renewable energy. Now in its 25th year, the Senior Players Championship will be held Oct. 1-7 at the Baltimore Country Club in Timonium, Md.
Through its retail electric supply business, Constellation NewEnergy, the company will purchase an estimated 100 MW hours of renewable energy credits to offset energy consumption at the clubhouse and solar panels will be installed for on-site power generation. In addition, biodiesel generators will power all of facilities throughout the course. The company estimates its renewable energy approach will prevent nearly 63.7 metric tons of carbon from entering the atmosphere.
‘The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship represents a unique opportunity for us to demonstrate our company-wide commitment to the most environmentally friendly energy solutions and to showcase the many renewable products and services we can offer to our customers,’ says Mayo A. Shattuck III, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Constellation Energy.
