Italy-based Griguol Impianti is building the 2.5 MW La Hormiga solar photovoltaic power plant in Chile using bifacial modules produced by MegaCell, also based in Italy.

The fixed-tilt plant features 9,180 of the BISoN n-type silicon modules, each having a nominal peak power of 270 W. Another 240 standard monofacial modules will also be installed.

Located in the Valparaiso region of Chile, the project is expected to produce approximately 5.78 GWh of electricity per year when completed in the third quarter.

MegaCell says that in addition to producing 20% more power than monofacial modules, the ‘glass-glass’ architecture of its bifacial PV module is expected to guarantee a lifespan of more than 40 years.
