IGS Solar LLC, a turnkey commercial and residential solar provider, and Beaumont Solar, a New Bedford, Mass.-based full-service solar developer, have joined together to install two solar arrays at Sturgis Charter Public School’s East and West campuses in Hyannis, Mass.

Sturgis Charter Public School offers its tuition-free education to 800 students throughout Cape Cod and southeast Massachusetts.

IGS Solar provided project financing and now owns and operates the systems, which are currently in operation.

According to IGS Solar, the East system is expected to generate 136,000 kWh of energy per year and meet 85% of the campus’ annual power needs, while the West system will provide 160,000 kWh per year and deliver 52% of the campus’ annual power needs.

The combined systems are expected to save more than $13,000 each year for 20 years, according to Eric Hieser, Sturgis’ executive director.

“Sturgis Charter Public School is pleased to partner with IGS Solar and Beaumont Solar on this project. By reducing our carbon footprint and energy costs, Sturgis will be able to allocate the savings for educational programs and provide an opportunity for students to learn first-hand about clean and renewable energy,” says Hieser.
