Home furnishings retailer IKEA has completed two more solar energy installations in the U.S.
The first solar array is located at the company's Houston store – which, when combined with IKEA projects atop stores in Frisco and Round Rock, Texas, will make IKEA the state's largest solar owner, according to the company.
IKEA Houston's 116,400 square-foot PV array is an 813 kW system consisting of 3,388 panels. For the development, design and installation of the Houston store's customized solar power system, IKEA contracted with REC Solar.
The company also completed and officially plugged in a solar energy system at its Detroit-area store in Canton, Mich. The 122,200 square-foot PV array consists of a 977.6 kW system built with 4,160 panels.
For the development, design and installation of the Canton store's customized solar power system, IKEA contracted with SoCore Energy.
IKEA owns and operates each of its solar PV energy systems atop its buildings – as opposed to having a solar lease or a power purchase agreement.
