IKEA says it is planning to install a 1.18 MW solar photovoltaic system on its store currently under construction in Sweetwater, Fla. The roof-mounted system will incorporate 4,620 panels and is expected to generate approximately 1.74 GWh of electricity per year.
IKEA contracted with REC Solar Inc. to develop the system, which represents the furniture retailer's 40th solar project in the U.S. The company says the array should be completed for the location's grand opening in summer 2014.
