Home furnishings retailer IKEA says it has officially plugged in a solar energy system installed at its store in Tampa, Fla. The 148,700 square-foot PV array consists of a 1.189 MW system, built with 4,956 panels.

For the development, design and installation of the Tampa store's customized solar power system, IKEA contracted with REC Solar Inc.

The project represents IKEA's 22nd completed solar energy project in the U.S., and the company has 17 more installations under way.
