IKEA Plugs In Solar Energy System At Pittsburgh Store

Home furnishings retailer IKEA has officially plugged in a new solar energy system installed at its Pittsburgh-area store in Robinson Township, Pa.

The 86,800 square-foot PV array consists of a 694 kW system, built with 2,884 panels. For the development, design and installation of the Pittsburgh store's customized solar power system, IKEA contracted with REC Solar Inc.

Since 2000, IKEA's Pittsburgh store hosted a 31 kW power purchase agreement for an array that was removed to facilitate the installation of the new system, which will be owned and operated by IKEA.

IKEA has now completed 22 solar projects in the U.S., with 17 more installations under way.
