IKEA U.S. Plans Two Additional Solar Installations

Home furnishings retailer IKEA plans to install solar arrays at two more of its U.S. locations – both distribution centers in the eastern U.S. For both projects, IKEA has contracted with Inovateus Solar LLC, a solar power distributor and integrator headquartered in South Bend, Ind.

Installation will occur this summer at IKEA distribution centers in Perryville, Md., and Westampton, N.J. The implementation of these projects will extend the IKEA solar presence to nearly 89% of its U.S. locations, the company says.

The two distribution centers will total 4.92 MW of solar generating capacity, more than 34,000 panels, and an annual output of approximately 5.93 GWh of electricity. As with IKEA's other installations, the company will own and operate the projects rather than entering into a power purchase agreement.
