JinkoSolar Holding Co. Ltd. has announced that it will supply the modules for a 5.75 MW solar array, to be located on the site of a former landfill in Canton, Mass.
The project, which is being developed by Boston-based Southern Sky Renewable Energy (SSRE) LLC, has been hotly contested by a Massachusetts labor union, which claims the solar installation is illegal and dangerous.
The Canton landfill project is part of a growing movement to convert brownfields into clean power generating sites.
JinkoSolar worked with ISM Solar Solutions LLC and SSRE to design and implement the solar array, and the facility was constructed by Gemma Renewable Power LLC.
SSRE has signed a 25-year lease to operate the Canton landfill solar site, which is expected to come online this summer.
