Johnson Controls has introduced a solar cooling solution that combines high-efficiency chillers with hybrid solar thermal and photovoltaic technologies.
The product uses the YORK Absorption Chiller and features PV waste-heat recovery technology. The solar-cooling solution integrates into any building controls system, including the Metasys building management system, Johnson Controls explains. It generates hot water for the absorption chiller to air condition buildings in order to reduce demand from the power grid.
The product features a solar-collector system developed by Cogenra, a Mountain View, Calif.-based developer of distributed solar co-generation technology. The solar cooling solution qualifies for state and utility incentives across North America.
