Lancashire Double Glazing Group, based in Preston, U.K., has completed what the company says is the largest photovoltaic roof installation in Britain.
The project involved the total refurbishment and upgrade of what was a derelict seafront solarium. The installation of the roof consisted of 145 double-glazed panels covering 232 square meters and comprising 6,870 photovoltaic cells. The installation is expected to generate approximately 18 kW.
The main contractor was Carefoot PLC. The building, since renamed The Solaris Centre, has been nominated for the top environment award and is short-listed for the Local Government Awards this year, Lancashire Double Glazing Group adds.
