The LeFrak Organization, a privately owned real estate company, says that a new solar photovoltaic system is now providing power to its 15-story office building at the center of Newport, the company's mixed-use community located across from Manhattan's Financial District.
The new solar system will serve as a pilot for LeFrak. The installation, located at 499 Washington Blvd., is one of the first solar installations in the world to provide power to a high-rise office building, according to the company.
James Lavin, energy czar for LeFrak, credits solar energy company Resource Energy Systems, based Rochelle Park, N.J., with making the deal viable. ‘Resource Energy Systems knew what they were doing technically and from a regulatory standpoint,’ Lavin says. ‘They made sure that this complicated undertaking went extraordinarily smoothly, was on time and without hassles.’
