Lightwave Power Inc., a company focused on commercializing improvements to solar cells and panels using light management films, together with Iowa State University, has received a $450,000 award from the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) as part of the Photovoltaic Technology Incubator Program.
The total anticipated subcontracts under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is $6 million. The two organizations will partner to develop a roll-to-roll photonic-enhanced thin film solar cell.Â
The new design is expected to lead to increased solar cell performance and decreased cost through increased long wavelength light absorption, according to the companies.
