Wellington, New Zealand-based electricity generator Meridian Energy, which generates power only from renewable resources, has purchased Cleantech America Inc., a San Francisco-based developer of utility-scale PV farms.
The acquisition marks Meridian Energy's entry into the U.S. market. The company plans to proceed with Cleantech America's first project, CalRENEW-1.
This 5 MW facility, to be located in Medota, Calif., is the first utility-scale solar PV project to be approved by the California Public Utilities Commission under the state's renewable portfolio standard, the companies note.
