MGM Resorts International and NRG Energy Inc., through its NRG Solar subsidiary, say they are planning to install a 6.2 MW rooftop solar photovoltaic array at the Mandalay Bay Resort Convention Center in Las Vegas.
‘The new 20,000-panel solar rooftop array at Mandalay Bay will effectively enable the resort to lock in a substantial component of its energy costs at a very competitive rate,’ says NRG Solar President and CEO Tom Doyle.
MGM Resorts says it chose the Mandalay Bay location for its new solar array due to its large sun-oriented rooftop space, which spans roughly 20 acres. Once the project is completed, Mandalay Bay will buy the energy created by the array through a power purchase agreement.
