MicroLink Devices Inc., a Niles, Ill.-based semiconductor manufacturer, has been awarded a $5 million grant from the state of Illinois to build a manufacturing plant to produce high-efficiency, lightweight solar cells.
The award was granted by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Funding was provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's renewable energy production program.
MicroLink's proprietary epitaxial lift-off manufacturing process allows its solar cells to compete with existing lower-efficiency products, according to the company.
