National Renewable Energy Corp. (NARENCO), a solar project developer and contractor based in Charlotte, N.C., has begun the installation of a 740 kW PV system on the roof of the York-Chester Plaza building in Gastonia, N.C.

According to the company, the project will utilize more than 3,000 solar modules to produce approximately 955,657 kWh of energy annually. Gaston County is leasing the rooftop space to NARENCO, which is overseeing all elements of the system's construction, from initial design to final commissioning. Â

NARENCO will then sell the power generated from the system to Duke Energy, while the solar renewable energy credits will be sold to Energy United of Statesville, N.C. At the end of the roof lease term, Gaston County has the option to purchase the system from NARENCO, the company notes. Lease financing for the system was provided by Wells Fargo Equipment Finance.Â

NARENCO plans to complete the rooftop solar PV system by the end of December.
