Arizona-based program and project management firm Kennedy Partners LLC has teamed with NRG Solar, an NRG Energy company, to develop a program under which solar installations will be deployed at Arizona schools.
Under the terms of the agreement, NRG will support the project development and provide investment capital for the installation and operation of the solar pavilions. NRG will continue to work with Kennedy Partners under a joint development agreement on similar solar-powered projects within Kennedy's portfolio.
The program is being implemented in conjunction with Pinnacle West, Arizona Public Service and public officials across the state. As a first stage, NRG Solar and Kennedy Partners are building 12 large solar pavilions at schools that are part of the Continental Elementary School District in Green Valley and the Gila Bend Unified School District. The solar pavilions will collectively generate more than 2.5 MW of power for the schools.
Additionally, NRG and Kennedy Partners are currently working on similar large-scale projects at Payson Unified School District and Arlington Elementary School District. This public-private partnership allows the schools to benefit from utility incentives and federal and state tax benefits.
