The Ontario Power Authority (OPA), which launched its small-scale feed-in-tariff (microFIT) program in October 2009, has proposed a new pricing category of C$0.588/kWh for these projects.
Participation in the program is very popular, and it has vastly surpassed expectations, the OPA says. More than 16,000 applications have been submitted, with a large majority for ground-mounted solar projects. The revised pricing is designed to help ensure the program remains sustainable and that electricity ratepayers receive good value for new, renewable energy.
The OPA will consult with applicants over the next 30 days about the new proposed pricing. During this time, the microFIT application intake will continue. Current pricing is C$0.802/kWh.
