The OPDE Group – which comprises OPDE, MECASOLAR, PROINSO and RIOS – plans to sign an agreement with the regional government of Piedmont, Italy, for the construction of 17 solar facilities.

In addition, the partners have announced the start-up of the operation and the maintenance center of RIOS photovoltaic systems; the assembly of MECASOLAR trackers and structures; and the creation of a logistics and research center for photovoltaic solar energy in the region, to be located in Turin, Italy.

The solar project will involve three phases, for a total capacity of 75 MW. The first phase, which is expected to be completed in early 2010, will comprise the implementation of seven solar photovoltaic farms, which will attain 31 MW of installed capacity. The second phase will take place in 2010, with the construction of 10 solar power plants with an installed capacity of 45 MW, and the third phase will focus on collaboration with technology centers and universities in order to launch the Centre for Research on Photovoltaic Solar Energy.

The project is expected to create approximately 375 jobs.
