Electronics giant Panasonic Corp. plans to construct a solar module factory in Malaysia in response to rising production costs in its home country of Japan.

Reuters reports that the company will invest up to 50 billion yen ($645 million) in the new plant. Both cell and module manufacturing are planned to take place at the factory, and production is scheduled to start next April, sources told Reuters.

The company has not yet made an official announcement.
