Pennsylvania Reminds Residents Of $1 Million In Solar Rebates Still Available

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has urged residents and small businesses to take advantage of the remaining $1 million in rebates available through the Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP's) Sunshine Solar Program. The program is due to end Dec. 31 or when funds are exhausted.

The DEP says the remaining funds will be disbursed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Homeowners are eligible for rebates of up to $7,500 for solar electric projects. Small businesses of 100 or fewer employees are eligible to receive up to $52,500. Homeowners are eligible for rebates of up to $5,000 for solar hot water projects, while small businesses are eligible to receive up to $50,000.

As required under the state's Alternative Energy Investment Act, eligible applicants must select and work with a DEP-approved installer. The installer applies for the rebate on behalf of the homeowner or business once the project is completed.
