Pittsburgh-based Plextronics, a developer of layer technology for printed electronics devices, has been awarded a $340,500 grant from the Pennsylvania NanoMaterials Commercialization Center to further develop organic solar cells. The grant will assist the company in developing Plexcore PV, a polymer-based semi-conductive ink that increases solar conversion efficiency while extending the lifetime of the device.
‘We are excited to have the support of the Pennsylvania NanoMaterials Commercialization Center in developing Plexcore PV technology,’ says Andrew Hannah, Plextronics' president and chief executive officer. ‘The development of active layer technology is crucial to the broad market commercialization of organic solar cells.’
