Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec) has unveiled plans to build a polysilicon production facility worth approximately $1 billion in Qatar.

QSTec's plant is expected to provide 8,000 metric tons of high-purity solar-grade polysilicon annually and is scheduled to commence operation in the second half of 2013.

The site, chosen with future expansion in mind, is located on 1.2 million square meters of land in Ras Laffan Industrial City in the northeast region of Qatar, the company says. QSTec's engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the project was awarded to the Punj Lloyd Group, an EPC conglomerate headquartered in Gurgaon, India.
