Norway-based REC has opened an integrated wafer, cell and module manufacturing facility in Tuas, Singapore. The new factory is the largest single investment ever made by REC, the company notes.

REC expects initial production volumes of 740 MW for wafers, 550 MW for cells and 590 MW for modules. The new capacity target for modules is 800 MW in 2012.

The manufacturing complex, which covers 321,000 square meters, has received the Gold Green Mark Award for environmental performance and is ISO 9001-certified. It has created 1,500 jobs so far, and recruitment is continuing, REC adds.
