REC Solar has commenced construction on a 14.53 MW solar array for Hawaii utility Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC).
The 57,624-panel solar photovoltaic system will be located on a 60-acre site in Anahola, on the northeast side of the island of Kauai. A 6 MW lithium-ion battery energy storage system will be installed alongside the array. Upon completion in 2015, the project is expected to generate 5% Kauai's annual energy needs.
The Anahola system is the second project that REC Solar has developed with KIUC, following a 1.2 MW array in Kapaa.
