REC Solar has completed a 1 MW solar energy system at the Ventura County Todd Road Jail facility in California. The project is expected to generate 1.9 GWh of electricity per year, offsetting 40% of the jail facility's electricity needs.
REC Solar says it designed and built the ground-mount system on a 180-day construction timeline, during which the jail continued its day-to-day operations. The company says it worked around complex space constraints, such as the existing parking lot and footprint of a future building, to create a site-specific, non-rectangular design.
