A report from the Solar Energy Industry Association and GTM Research says U.S. installations of solar photovoltaic power systems for residential purposes exceeded commercial ones in the first quarter of the year (Q1'14) for the first time.
According to the report, the U.S. installed 1.33 GW of PV in Q1'14, with 232 MW of that being residential and 225 MW being commercial. Nevertheless, the solar sector as a whole continues to be dominated by the utility-scale segment, which saw over 800 MW deployed in Q1'14.
U.S. installations of PV in Q1'14 were up 79% over the corresponding quarter of 2013. Cumulative operating PV capacity stood at 13.395 GW, with 482,000 individual systems online as of the end of the quarter.
