Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. has reached a partnership agreement with Canadian Solar Inc. to open a new manufacturing facility in London, Ontario. The facility will produce solar PV modules and medium-voltage power stations.

Samsung says the plant will supply its current solar projects in the region, including the 100 MW Haldimand County energy park, as well as future projects. The company says the new location also will have research and product development facilities for Canadian Solar.

‘We are proud to be partnering with Samsung Renewable Energy to expand the use of solar energy while, at the same time, creating green manufacturing jobs in Canada,’ says Canadian Solar Chairman and CEO Shawn Qu.

Samsung says that in addition to the Haldimand solar park, which is expected to start construction in August, the London manufacturing facility will supply modules for two 100 MW PV projects in Kingston and Loyalist Township. These two solar projects are expected to start construction in 2014.
