The city of San Diego has increased the costs for residents to obtain solar project plan approval and inspection from $93 to $565.
According to city officials, the fee hike is designed to support a city policy change and reflect the costs associated with issuing the permits, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. However, industry advocates and installers fear the increased prices will hurt the city's deployment of solar energy.
Mayor Jerry Sanders is reportedly planning to roll out a low-cost loan program for solar installations in the next few months.
