SEMI and the U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (PVMC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) intended to enhance the groups' cooperation in the areas of standards and road map activities for the solar thin-film industry.
PVMC was created as part of the U.S. Department of Energy's SunShot initiative, which is designed to reduce the cost of photovoltaic solar energy systems by approximately 75% over the next decade. It is spearheaded by the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of the University at Albany and SEMATECH.
The organizations envision a research, development and commercialization partnership in which industry, academia and government are working together to drive new advances in next-generation solar cell technologies, beginning with copper indium gallium selenide thin-film PV manufacturing solutions.
