A California brewery is seeking energy self-sufficiency through a combination of solar power and fuel cells.
The Paradise Post daily newspaper reports the Sierra Nevada Brewery will achieve complete energy self-sufficiency by the end of September. The main thrust of this project has been the installation of four fuel cells that currently maintains three-quarters of the brewery's power.
The remaining 25% of the brewery's self-generating power will come from the installation of new solar panels, which should be in place by the end of the month. Pacific Gas & Electric Co., the California utility, will provide a refund for installation costs to the brewery through its Self-Generation Incentive Program once all of the technology is installed and fully operational.
