Solar Test Lab Installs New Stand From PSE AG

The CFV Solar Test Laboratory in Albuquerque, N.M., has begun using a new mechanical load test stand supplied by Freiburg, Germany-based PSE AG.

According to PSE, the new stand allows the lab to accurately simulate and measure PV modules' abilities to resist mechanical stresses. The stand enables the testing of loads at both room temperature and temperatures ranging from -40 degrees C to 80 degrees C. This means that engineers can evaluate the performance, reliability and durability of PV modules for use in different climatic regions.

PSE's stand is also designed to allow rapid set-up of the machine for differently sized modules with equal distances between suction cups for a uniform load distribution. The high upper load limit of 10,000 Pa makes it possible to perform tests well in excess of normal demands and evaluate the modules' safety margins, the company adds.
