The University of Arizona Science & Technology Park (UA Tech Park) has designated about 200 of its 1,345 acres as the Solar Zone, located at 9000 S. Rita Rd. in Tucson, Ariz.
According to John D. Grabo, director of business development for the UA Tech Park, the Solar Zone is designed to attract different segments of the solar market to ‘manufacture products, create technology, attract suppliers, nurture talent and influence the solar strategy of the region.’
The Solar Zone will connect selected and pre-qualified research centers internationally and create productive partnerships through The Global Advantage program, a network of cities and regions in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
In January, Bell Independent Power Corp. of Rochester, N.Y., announced it would be the anchor tenant of the Solar Zone. The company is siting a 5 MW concentrating solar plant with thermal storage.
